Blackjack History

History of Blackjack games is centuries old that begins from 1700s. Some scholars say that French casinos are the origin of Blackjack. Due to its unique features, Blackjack gained popularity among organizers and players simultaneously all around the world. Some researchers claim that Blackjack descended from various French popular gambling card based games like Baccarat, Vingt-et-Un and Seven-And-A-Half. Seeing so many theories about its origin, it seems that not much enough information about the origin and development of Blackjack is available.

At the end of French Revolution in 1789, Blackjack gained popularity in US and the people who wanted to earn some quick bugs liked it because of its simplicity and wide range of available playing options. Initially, to increase the popularity of Blackjack, American casinos introduced some bonus payout schemes for the winners which proved very effective. After some time, seeing the popularity of Blackjack, incentive and promotional schemes were phased out but this didn't affected the popularity of this game.

Till 1919, green felted tables were used to play Blackjack and by 1931, Blackjack had attained third place in popularity after Craps and Roulette. By 1948, it became second popular gambling game after Craps. In 1958, some Math based Blackjack strategies were formulated to attract more players. Though regular changes were incorporated in these strategies but the main structure remained same.
